The City of Saint John was chosen, from over 70 nominated communities, in CBC's Maritimes Cultureville TV show as the Maritimes Cultureville during on a 30-minute TV show aired last evening. The competition asked New Brunswickers, Nova Scotians, and Prince Edward Islanders top pick the cultural centre of the Maritimes for 2011.
The top ten culturally vibrant communities were profiled last evening, on the eve of Culture Days across the country, in the half hour television program called Maritimes Cultureville. CBC listeners helped build the top ten list and chose which community was to be named Cultureville for 2011.
CBC received a terrific response with over 70 communities being nominated to be the Maritimes Cultureville for 2011. It was clear from the initiative that Maritimers truly love their communities and are active in all sorts of cultural activities.
Saint John’s special designation is a part of the lead up to a nationwide celebration of Culture Days this weekend.

3. Lunenburg, NS
4. Inverness County, Cape Breton, NS
5. Bear River, NS
6. North Preston, NS
7. Charlottetown, PEI
8. Sackville, NB
9. North End Halifax, NS
10. Evangeline Region, PEI

The City’s Cultural Affairs Office extends thanks and appreciation to the citizens and supporters of Saint John for participating in CBC’s contest.
